Bullet chart: actual vs target
Several KPIs in little space: each with its actual bar, its target marker and three qualitative ranges, on its own scale.
The bullet chart replaces the gauge: in a single row it shows the actual, the target and whether the value sits in a poor, acceptable or good zone. From 3 to 8 KPIs stack one under another, each on its own scale from zero, so nobody compares the length of a currency bar with that of a margin in percent.
Before drawing, the deterministic kit checks that the table is complete, with no duplicate rows and numeric figures, and the chart script checks that every KPI has a target and that the ranges are in order. If something is missing, it stops and asks: it does not invent targets or ranges.
It delivers a native Excel chart linked to a data sheet with formulas, the PNG and SVG for Word or PowerPoint, and the alt text. The AI only writes the title, and the script checks its figures and direction against calculo.json.
What it includes
5 sections, in this order
- 01Action title: which KPIs reach their target and which do not
- 02One row per KPI on its own scale, from zero
- 03Poor, acceptable and good ranges in grays; actual in graphite; target as a vertical marker
- 04Direct label with actual, ▲▼, variance and variance % against target
- 05Note with where targets and ranges come from, source and seal
Controls 4/4
What it checks before writing a single figure
C1Complete data: recognized headers, numeric figures, no repeated KPIs and valid units.
C2Income statement subtotals tie if the table includes them (N/A otherwise).
C3Sign convention: costs and expenses with a single sign.
C4Figures in the title, subtitle, note and alt text traceable to calculo.json, and a title in the direction of the KPI it mentions.

It comes out adapted to your report profile
Compatible with every country and framework in the Standard: when you copy, it is composed with your profile (country, accounting framework, report language, currency, unit and year-end). Terminology, number format and statement names come from the Standard, not from the prompt.

Questions
About this chart
Why a bullet chart and not a gauge?
Because a gauge takes a lot of space for a single figure and cannot be compared. The bullet shows actual, target and ranges in one row, and several KPIs fit in half a page.
What if I have no ranges?
The prompt asks for them. If you reply «continue», it uses 70%, 90% and 115% of the target and states it as an assumption in the chart note.
Does it work for KPIs where lower is better, such as days sales outstanding?
Yes. With better = down the ranges are reversed and the label marks an actual below target as favorable.
What if my AI cannot run code?
It delivers the table with formulas and the steps to build the chart in Excel, and the footer says «NOT VERIFIED».
