KPI card with sparkline
A card with the month's value, its variance with ▲▼ and sign against budget, prior year or prior month, and a 12-month sparkline.
A KPI card you understand in three seconds: name, big number, one variance line per comparative and, next to it, the sparkline for the last twelve months with the minimum, maximum and last point marked.
Before drawing, the script checks that the series is complete, with no repeated or missing months, and reconciles the last month to the income statement figure if you provide it. The sparkline's last point is exactly the card's value.
It comes out as PNG and SVG for Word or PowerPoint and as an Excel file with a native sparkline linked to the data, plus the alt text. It works for revenue, margin, cash, DSO or any monthly KPI.
What it includes
4 sections, in this order
- 01KPI name
- 02Value for the month
- 03Variances with ▲▼ against Budget, PY and prior month
- 0412-month sparkline with minimum, maximum and last point
Controls 3/3
What it checks before writing a single figure
C1Complete series: valid, consecutive months with no duplicates and at least 6 months of the KPI.
C2Reconciliation: the series' last month is the income statement or dashboard figure (N/A if not given).
C3Figures in the subtitle, alt text and title traceable, and a title in the direction of the variance it mentions.

Questions
About this chart
How many months do I need?
At least six; ideally twelve for the sparkline and thirteen if you want the variance against the same month last year.
Does it work for KPIs in percent or days?
Yes. Give the unit (pct, days, months, times or number) and whether higher or lower is better; percentage changes come out in percentage points.
What if a month is missing?
The script does not draw: it shows the gap and asks. It never fills in months on its own.
