Slope chart
The change between two periods for several categories: one line per category, with direct labels and no legend, to see what grew faster than what.
The slope chart puts the reference period on the left and the current one on the right, and joins each category with a straight line. The slope tells the story: if selling expenses rise faster than revenue, you see it without reading a table. The category in the title is highlighted and the rest are gray, with the value and the change written at each end.
Before drawing, the deterministic kit validates the full table and checks the income statement subtotals in both periods. If the magnitudes are very different (revenue against an expense line), the chart switches to an index with the reference at 100 and the subtitle says so: never a broken axis or two scales. If something does not tie, it stops and asks.
It delivers a native Excel chart with the variance table in formulas, the PNG and SVG, and alt text with one line per category.
What it includes
5 sections, in this order

- 02Reference on the left and current on the right, with the period labeled
- 03One line per category; the one in the title highlighted and the rest in gray
- 04Direct labels: name and value on the left; value and ▲▼ change % on the right
- 05Note with what was left out, the index if used, source and seal
Controls 4/4
What it checks before writing a single figure
C1Complete data: recognized headers, numeric figures, no repeated categories and valid units.
C2Income statement subtotals tie in both periods if the table includes them.
C3Sign convention: costs and expenses with a single sign.
C4Figures in the title, subtitle, note and alt text traceable to calculo.json, and a title in the direction of the category it mentions.

Questions
About this chart
When should I use a slope chart instead of bars?
Slope when what matters is the change between two moments and comparing slopes; bars (GRF-005) when the level across many periods matters.
Why is it sometimes an index?
Because if one category is more than 8 times larger than another, the small one looks flat on a linear scale. With an index (reference = 100) every slope can be compared, and the subtitle flags it.
Can I compare against budget instead of prior year?
Yes: the prompt asks for the reference period. If you reply «continue», it uses the same month of the prior year.
How many categories fit?
Up to 8. With more, the labels overlap: the prompt asks you to choose.
