Pareto 80/20
Columns from largest to smallest with the cumulative % curve and the 80% cut-off: how many customers, products or expenses explain almost everything.
The Pareto chart answers a management question: where is the value concentrated? It ranks customers, products, suppliers or expense accounts from largest to smallest, draws the cumulative percentage curve and marks the category where 80% is crossed, with the text «10 of 21 = 81.6%» on the chart itself.
Before drawing, the deterministic kit validates the table and the chart script checks that the categories add up to the source total, that the order is descending, that the cumulative ends at 100% and that no negative values sit inside the columns. If something does not tie, it stops and asks.
It delivers a native Excel chart (columns and a line on a secondary axis) linked to a data sheet with formulas, the PNG and SVG, and the alt text. Customers and suppliers always appear as codes, never by name.
What it includes
5 sections, in this order
- 01Action title: how many categories explain the cut-off and what share of the total
- 02Columns from largest to smallest; the vital few in a dark tone and the rest in gray
- 03Cumulative % curve on the right axis (0–100%) with a dotted cut-off line
- 04Vertical marker after the last category within the cut-off, labeled «N of M = X%»
- 05Note with what was left out (negatives, «Other»), source and seal
Controls 4/4
What it checks before writing a single figure
C1Complete data: recognized headers, numeric figures and no repeated category.
C2Income statement subtotals tie if the table includes them (N/A for a Pareto).
C3Sign convention: costs and expenses with a single sign.
C4Figures in the title, subtitle, note and alt text traceable to calculo.json (number of categories, cut-off and cumulative %).

Questions
About this chart
Does it work for expenses or suppliers, not just customers?
Yes. Any list of positive values by category: sales by product, spend by account, purchases by supplier or receivables by customer. The title changes with what is measured.
What if my cut-off is not 80%?
The prompt asks: you can use 70%, 90% or whatever you decide. If you reply «continue», it uses 80%.
What about credit notes or negative balances?
They are not drawn inside the columns: the note reports them with their total, so the cumulative never exceeds 100%.
What if I have hundreds of categories?
It shows up to 25 and groups the rest in «Other» at the end. «Other» never counts toward the cut-off.
