Small multiples
A grid of mini charts, one per product line, site, channel or customer, with the same months and the same scale: see at a glance who grows and who weighs more.
When four or nine series are drawn on a single chart, the lines cross and nobody sees anything. Small multiples give each category its own panel, with the same months and the same scale everywhere: the size of each area can be compared and each trend reads on its own. Every panel carries its latest value, the 12-month change and its share of the total.
Before drawing, the deterministic kit validates the table and the chart script checks that all categories have the same months, with no gaps, and that each month the categories add up to the income statement or ledger total. If a month does not tie, it stops and asks: it does not fill in months or spread differences.
It delivers the matrix in Excel with one native chart per category and the same axis maximum, the PNG and SVG of the grid, and alt text with one line per panel.
What it includes
5 sections, in this order
- 01Action title about the difference between panels
- 02One panel per category, from largest to smallest in the latest month
- 03Same zero-based scale in every panel; the latest month labeled
- 04Under each panel: 12-month change, share and, if there is a plan, «vs plan ▲▼»
- 05Note with what the total adds up, «Other», source and seal
Controls 4/4
What it checks before writing a single figure
C1Complete data: recognized headers, numeric figures, no repeated category-month rows and valid units.
C2Income statement subtotals tie if the table includes them (N/A for a matrix by category).
C3Sign convention: costs and expenses with a single sign.
C4Figures in the title, subtitle, note and alt text traceable to calculo.json, and a title consistent with the key figure.

Questions
About this chart
Why the same scale if one category is much smaller?
Because relative size is information: if a line looks small, it is small. With one scale per panel, a tiny change looks huge.
How many panels fit?
From 2 to 9. If you have more categories, the prompt shows the 8 largest and groups the rest in «Other» in the ninth panel.
Does it work for sites, channels or customers?
Yes: any monthly measure split by category. Customers appear as codes, never by name.
What if I have no plan by category?
The panels are drawn the same way, without the plan marker, and the note says so.
